Kitfox IV-1200 Speedster

HB-YJP - History

This beautiful Kitfox IV-1200 Speedster was build by former Swiss Air Force pilot and Swissair Captain Rolf Plüss. In far more than a thousand hours of building he paid attention to every little detail of HB-YJP and on March 25, 2002 the first flight was celebrated in Lommis, Switzerland. The aircraft is not only a delight to look at but also a lot of fun in the air!
After a career in aviation, Rolf decided to give up flying and in late 2006 we had the chance to acquire HB-YJP with only about 50 hours on the Hobbs-Meter. The aircraft is now based on the small airfield Speck-Fehraltorf near Zurich, Switzerland. There is a good chance though to see it on some other airport in or around Switzerland on a sunny weekend.

Kitfox - History

The Kitfox was designed as a lightweight, two-place sport aircraft with excellent STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) performance and the ability to operate from short and unimproved airfields. The Kitfox features folding wings and is easily trailered, allowing owners to share hangar space or keep their Kitfox's at home in a single car garage.
In the early 1990s the Kitfox model IV was introduced. An improved version with higher take of weight followed shortly after; the Classic IV or model IV-1200. The Classic IV was also available in a short wing Speedster configuration for pilots who want more speed and faster roll rate. The Speedster package streamlines the Classic IV with a variety of fairings and adds 10-20 mph to this model’s top speed.
Since 1984 seven different Kitfox series have been developed and today Kitfoxes are flying in over 42 countries around the world. The Kitfox kit is manufactured by Kitfox Aircraft LLC (www.kitfoxaircraft.com).
